Saturday 17th.
Another exciting inter-cultural experience
We left McLeod Ganj at 12.00 in two very modern taxis for the trip to Dehra via Kangra. We had previously travelled this route when we first arrived at McLeod Ganj but it was late at night. Great to do it in daylight and take in the scenery.
We were also travelling in the midst of the three-day Diwali Festival. A very important celebration involving home-based religious ceremonies and the explosion of many crackers!
At Kangra we were greeeted by Sandeep, a local defence lawyer, his wife Anju and his family and were treated to a lovely afternoon tea. His daughter Aastha, an economics university student, has agreed to keep in contact via Facebook.
We then headed off to meet Munna and his family at Dehra. The evening was characterised by much eating, merriment, religious ceremonies, fireworks and the buying of India dress clothing for all of us to wear at the wedding.
Among these images you will find,
1. Crowded streets slowing down our travel time.
2. Sandeep, Anju and family with all of us.
3. Fireworks in Munna's backyard.
4. A street shot of Dehra with Helen, Petra and Meg planning the drinks for the evening!(?)
5. A local Dehra lady who assisted in the preparation of our special meal at Munna's house.
6. The 'Princes" in their wedding outfits!
7. Dave Clark and his Tibetan daughter Kelsung with her daughter in the background.
We are all having a great time and continue to recognise the sense of community and care for one another reflected in the behaviour of these wonderful people of India.
(Missing images may be added later. I'm just not skilled in resizing for easy uploading!)
